In the temple, he chanced to see a very beautiful lady. He fell in love with her there and then. Many days passed by but still his love for the lady did not diminish. One day, he asked his servant to find out all he could about the lady. A few days later, the servant reported that the lady’s name was Chandrasena. She belonged to a well-to-do family. Her father was a wealthy landlord. A happy and excited Gurudatta sent his marriage proposal to her parents. But her parents politely turned down the proposal. They told him that Chandrasena was already engaged to a man named Jaikaran. Gurudatta felt dejected after hearing this. He thought of renouncing the world. But, one day, he received a letter from Chandrasena. She wrote that she was very impressed to know of Gurudatta’s love for her. She promised him that she would, under any circumstance, meet him after her wedding.
