Chapter 12–Bhakti Yoga | SHRIMAD BHAGWAD GITA

WHAT IS BHAKTI YOGA

Krishna has again reverted to his normal human form. With folded hands Arjun says to him, ‘O Keshav! Deity Orignal!! Man Supreme!!! Those who worship you or who put their faith in formless Power Eternal, which of the two do I consider more accomplished?’ Krishna answered to him. ‘O Parth! Those who worship my manifested material form with true devotion and put their mind into it, they are of sublime quality as I consider.

But those who put their faith in my unmanifest abstract form, exercise control over their senses and show equanimity to all they too gain me in the end. The abstract form is beyond the reach of the senses, omnipresent, unimaginable, unchangeable, eternal and infinite. For ordinary mortals this path is difficult.’ ‘Lord! It means the worship of your manifest form is the easy way,’ Arjun remarked. ‘Yes, it is the direct and easy way,’ Lord agreed. ‘I redeem those who worship me in true spirit, with loving devotion and surrender all their karma to me.’

FORMS OF BHAKTI-YOGA

To remove the doubts of Arjun, Lord Krishna said, ‘O Arjun! One who is not animus to any other creature and is compassionate to all he becomes my friend, a dear one. One who does not consider lord of himself and is free of false pride, who is equanimous through thick and thin, is tolerant, kind hearted, self contented, self-controlled and full of pious thoughts, who remains within himself with determination, such devotee is dear to me.’ ‘Lord! Which people are the dearest to you?’ Arjun wanted to know.

Lord Krishna revealed, ‘O Savyasachi! One who does not hurt others, does not get upset in diversities, does not limit his life to mundane affairs and who does perform selfless acts with piety, cleverness, without worries and care for difficulties and worships me devotedly making me his ultimate goal, such a faithful is the dearest one to me.’
