Chichen Itza

Chichen-Itza

The Chichen Itza is a complex of Mayan ruins that cover an area of 6.5 sq.km. The Chichen Itza is situated on the Yucatán Peninsula of Mexico. This city was built between 600 AD and 1200 AD.

Why it is special: The Chichen Itza is a shining example of the rich and vast culture of the Mayan people. It is also a symbol of diversity, where many varied cultures were said to co-exist. This diverse population may well be the reason for many different architectural styles found within the city. At the heart of the city stands the symbolic pyramid, El Castillo, an iconic structure of the Chichen Itza.
