Children’s day

Our first Prime Minister, Jawaharlal Nehru was extremely popular with children. The children used to call him ‘Chacha Nehru’.
So, Nehru’s birthday November 14, is celebrated in India as the Children’s Day. The children are encouraged to take part in contests like drawing, on the spot painting, quiz and sports.
TV channels also show special programmes on Chacha Nehru and children.
This year our school is going to organise an essay competition on ‘Chacha Nehru and his dreams for the children of India’. I have decided to take part in it. I must read all books on Jawaharlal Nehru. The winner is to get cash prize of Rs. 5000 and a trophy. If win I will spend all the money on buying new clothes and a nice lunch to the boys who pick plastic bags every morning in the vacant plot in front of our house. They are too unfortunate kids. That will be my tribute to ‘Chacha Nehru’.
