Chiruwi

Long ago, in central Africa lived Chiruwi, a half-man creature. He had only half a body, one arm, one leg and one side of a torso. He was invisible if looked at from one side and would suddenly appear and challenge any man to wrestle with him. If a man defeated Chiruwi, the creature would share its wealth of medicinal knowledge with him and let him go. The knowledge gained from Chiruwi would make the winner a successful witch doctor. He would become not only famous throughout the land but also a very rich person. If the person lost to Chiruwi, he would be killed. Chiruwi was especially famous in a place called Nyasaland. It was believed that he haunted lonely places in the forest, carrying an axe that was razor-sharp. This axe was not used for evil. In fact, he protected children from evil. He had the power to transform into a flying creature of any type.
