Do you know that in all likelihood Columbus was not the first European to cross the Atlantic Ocean? That honour is generally given to Norse Viking Leif Eriksson.
Christopher Columbus was an Italian explorer and navigator, who had undertaken a total of 4 voyages across the Atlantic Ocean. In order to establish trade routes and colonies for the Spanish Crown, Columbus had set out to reach East Indies and the coast of Japan. Instead Columbus reached the new world and called its people ‘Indian’.
Famous Quote: “Following the light of the sun, we left the Old World.”
