Common name : Clothes moth
Scientific name : Tinea spp.
Family : Tineidae
Native to : North America
Interesting fact : Since the larvae of this species feed on furs, wool, upholstery, feathers and even animal products, this moth is known as the clothes moth.
With a wingspan of 1.2 cm, the clothes moths are yellowish to buff coloured moths. While the adult moths themselves do not feed on fabrics, they lay about 150 eggs on the surface which later becomes the food source for the larvae. However, most of their life-cycle gets completed at room temperature. By sunning, fumigating and keeping fabrics in cold storage, the damage to them is much lesser.
