The Cacatuidae (scientific name) is the family of birds from the parrot order known as cockatoo. These birds are found from the Philippines and Indonesia to Solomon Islands and Australia. With height ranging from 12-24 inches, these birds are easily identifiable because of their large head crests and curved beaks. Very similar in features to the parrot, the cockatoo has slightly subtler coloured plumage, which varies from, white to grey and black. The
diet may vary depending on the species, but most cockatoos eat a variety of vegetable food-items, including roots, tubers, fruits and sometimes even insects. Average clutch-size varies form 1-8 eggs depending on the size of the bird. Its IUCN listing ranges from VULNERABLE to CRITICALLY ENDANGERED, depending on the species.
