It resembles a pig, but is not so. Their diet consists of cacti, nuts, tubers, grasses, and even small to medium-sized vertebrates. They forage both during the day and at night, and live in groups of around six to twelve members. Collared peccaries live in burrows made under the roots of trees. Gestation lasts 145 days, and a litter has one to four young.
