You will need:
- A large photograph of a scenery (from a magazine or a print-out)
- Scissors
- Glue
- Blank paper
- Pencil
- Thick chart paper
Try this simple optical illusion at home and sharpen not only your observation skills but also your logical thinking.
INSTRUCTIONS
- Take a print-out or photograph of
a scenery from a magazine. - Next, take a sheet of blank paper
and make 2 columns on it— ‘before’ and ‘after’. - Observe the photo on the whole. Write down in the
‘before’ column how the picture looks. - Next, cut the photograph into 4 equal vertical strips. Using the glue, stick the 4 strips on the chart paper with at least 2- inch gap between each strip.
- Now, observe the distended photograph once again. How does it make your eyes feel?
RESULT
By just breaking up an image and leaving gaps in between can confuse our brain into believing that the image is stretched. This is because our eyes expect to see the normal version of the image instead of the stretched distorted version.
