Coral animals are called polyps. Coral is the skeleton of these polyps which have hard and protective limestone skeletons at their base which is called calicle Polyps have many small tentacle like arms. Corals develop near the surface of the water as they require sunlight. They mostly feed on algal by-products but during night, these corals spread out their venomous tentacles and feed upon zooplankton and small fish. Coral reefs cover ≤ 1% area of the whole ocean but they support more than 25% of the marine life.
Maldives is the coral island present in the Indian Ocean.
Zooplankton: They are small floating organisms that are slowly carried by water currents in oceans, seas, fresh water-bodies.
