Cordelia and Bump

“Cordelia is a very silly name for a dog!” said Farmer Dawson. “It’s out of Shakespeare!” replied Mrs Dawson who was very well-read. “It’s still a very silly name!” he announced, marching off. Unknown to them, Cordelia, the beautiful spaniel, had found a friend. He was Bump, a mongrel, who wandered into the farm one evening looking for something to eat. Cordelia took him all around the farm and he shared her meal. Now, he would regularly come and soon became friendly with all the farm animals. One day, Cordelia led him into the farm kitchen. Mrs Dawson screamed, but Bump wagged his tail and rolled over on his back happily! Mrs Dawson simply couldn’t get rid of him! Cordelia also now came only if she was called Coddy! To Farmer Dawson’s delight, now they had two dogs that were called Bump and Coddy respectively! And Mrs Dawson did love them too.
