The Phalacrocoracidae (scientific name) or cormorant is found along the coastline and rocky shores of the UK. There are various species within this family, and subsequently their size varies from 18 inches to 40 inches in length. With its long neck and bare colourful facial skin, this bird has a very primitive look. Most of the species have glossy black or dark-grey plumage all over, excepting the face, which varies in colour. Their diet consists of fish, and they also enjoy eating eels and water snakes. Colonial nesters, these birds have varying clutch-sizes. Generally, an average clutch-size of cormorant has 2-5 eggs, which are incubated for 25-30 days. Its IUCN listing varies, but many are listed as VULNERABLE, ENDANGERED and NEAR THREATENED.
