Both Charivari and Coup de Marriage are French wedding customs.
Do you know: When the bride and the groom leave their reception, the guests place laurel leaves in their path.
During the wedding, it is customary for the bride and the groom to drink wine from a two-handled cup, known as Coup de Marriage. Charivari is a custom that is organized by friends and family of the newly weds on their first night, where the guests gather outside the house and make a huge ruckus with anything they can find–pots, drums, horns, etc. until the newly weds invite them in for a drink.
