INSTRUCTIONS

  1. Place the newspaper over a stool which situated a large area of the ground.
  2. Keep a large wide tub over the newspaper and fill it with flour or white cement up to 3 inches.
  3. Using a sifter spread an even coat of cocoa powder over the flour. This will help analyze the crater.
  4. Now, stand on another stool. You will drop your rock and measure the distance from your hand till the tub.
  5. Note the size of the rock you are
    about to drop.
  6. Drop the rock. Analyze the crater formed by the rock. Take a picture for later use.
  7. Repeat the process of dropping another rock, after you have noted down its size.
  8. This time, drop it in another part of the tub, without disturbing the first crater.

RESULT

By dropping small rocks of varying sizes into the tub covered with flour and cocoa, you are replicating the impact meteors create when they hit the earth’s surface. The size of the rock will affect the size of the crater it creates, so will the speed and height from which you throw the rock.
