Crested Coua

The Coua cristata (scientific name) or crested coua is found only in the forests, savannahs and brushlands of Madagascar. 17 inches in length, the crested coua has a white belly and underparts, with a rufous-coloured breast. The head, neck and throat are grey-blue in colour, while the upper body plumage and wings are darker blue-grey in colour. It also has a crest of grey-blue feathers on its head. The bare patch of orbital skin around its eyes extends to the bill and is half light blue and half purple-blue. Their diet is comprised of insects, fruits, berries, seeds, snails and chameleons. An average clutch has 2 eggs. But the incubation period is not confirmed. Its IUCN listing is the LEAST CONCERN.
