The males are generally 35 mm in length, and the females are 42 mm. They reside in the soil, hiding in holes or in any other area where there is a good amount of cover. The black field cricket lays eggs once a year. This cricket has a detailed courtship pattern, whereby the male attracts the females with a song. The females are choosy with regards to selecting a mate, based on various components.
