In Russia, it is the groom’s family who pays a dowry. Before a wedding, the groom’s family visit the bride’s family. A dowry is paid by the groom and only then is his bride to be allowed to come out. But, if the dowry seems to be less, then very often the bride’s family substitutes the bride, with a cross-dressing friend until a larger sum is paid.
