With the help of this simple experiment you can separate milk into its solid and liquid parts.

Things Required:

Milk
Vinegar
Small baby food jar
Tablespoon

Directions:

Fill the jar with fresh milk. Add 2 tablespoonfuls of vinegar and stir. Allow the jar to sit for two to three minutes.

This Is What Happens:

The milk separates into two parts—a white solid and a clear liquid.

Science Behind It:

A colloid is a mixture of liquids and very tiny particles that are spread throughout the liquid. Milk is an example of a colloid. The solid particles in milk are evenly spread throughout the liquid. Vinegar causes the small undissolved particles to clump together, forming a solid called curd. The liquid portion is referred to as whey.
