Dhundiraj Govind Phalke, popularly known as Dada Saheb Phalke, was born on the 30th of April 1870 in Bombay Presidency, the British India, and passed away on 16th February, 1944.

‘The Father of Indian cinema’, Dada Saheb Phalke produced and directed the first full-length Indian feature film in 1913. Across a span of 19 years, he made 95 movies and 26 short films. In his memory, in 1969, the Government of India introduced the ‘Dada Saheb Phalke Award’ for a lifetime contribution to cinema.
