Daisy Manages the House

Daisy was a mare. She was a sweet little mare.

Daisy had father, mother and a younger brother. Hers was a close-knit family.

One day, Daisy’s mother said to Daisy, “Come dear! I will teach you how to cook.”

Daisy replied, “What is the hurry, Mother? I will learn when I grow up.”

But Daisy’s mother was firm. Her parents believed that there was no age for learning.

So, Daisy’s mother taught her how to cook food every day.

She also made Daisy’s brother do small chores.

One day, something awful happened. Daisy’s father fell sick. He was taken to the hospital.

Daisy’s mother also had to go with him. While going, she said to Daisy, “Take care of the house.”

Daisy was too emotional to say anything. She watched her parents go sadly.

Daisy’s mind was in a whirl. Then, she took hold of her senses.

First, she prepared breakfast for herself and her brother. Then, she got him ready for school.

Later, she went to drop her brother at the bus stop.

After that, she washed the clothes in the washing machine and put them out to dry.

Daisy decided not to go to school herself as her mother might need her anytime.

Afterwards, she fetched the newspaper and picked the milk bottles up from outside.

She also made up the beds. Finally, she prepared lunch in case her mother and father came in.

But her mother called up some time later saying, “I will come home in the evening but

your father will stay here for a while.”

When Daisy’s mother came in the evening, she was surprised and

delighted to see the house spick and span.

She patted Daisy and said, “Good girl! Now I am not worried anymore as you can take care of the house.”

Daisy replied, “Mother, I wish to thank you for making me self-reliant.” Daisy hugged her mother lovingly.

Moral : One should always be prepared.
