Bharat Natyam of Tamilnadu, Oddisi of Orissa, Kathakali of Kerala, Kuchipudi of Andhra Pradesh, Kathak of Jaipur and Lucknow and Manipuri dance of Manipur have altogether unique identity all over the world because of their elegant quality and grace.
At present Dance is not only a best medium of expression but is also a special career, which shows way to a golden future. The most important factor of Indian dances is their deep association with religious and spiritual principals. That is why most of the traditional dances are performed keeping in mind any Supreme power or God. This is the effect of Dancing art that even well known popular singers are making dance based videos and CD of their own songs. Melodious music and beautiful dance steps has taken these video albums on the heights of success. These albums are so popular that even dance sequences of movies look dimmer. Different T.V. channels including Doordarshan and produces of films both in India and abroad are always in need of some good choreographers. This is not all, trained people are appointed as Masters in different art schools, cultural colleges and training centres of traditional music.

It is very important to take training with full devotion from any university, or from Gandharva Mahavidyalaya or from “Master and Disciple tradition” to be successful in this field. By choosing a particular form of dance and then with regular practice and devotion one can touch heights of success. Those feel deep communion with dance, this field could prove not only an excellent source of income but also proves to be a good opportunity for fame, prosperity and glory.
Many schemes and projects are announced by the Govt. of India for the protection and progress of art and culture. Almost in every city of the country, Indira Kala Sangeet, Gandharva Mahavidyalaya or Dance institutes are been setup to impart formal training. Many of films and T.V. personalities are also providing training in caberette, disco, folk, classical dance forms.
There is an arrangement of training in classical dance by Kathak Kendra, a part of “Central Music and Play Academy” recognised by Government of India. Different courses are been offered here according to different age groups. For diploma course in Kathak, a 5 year duration period has been decided. To get admission in this course, the age limit of candidate should be between 7 to 16 year. A 3 years diploma course is also offered here, which is also known as (Pass course). For that age of candidate should be between 13 to 22 years. Another 3 year Kathak Diploma (Honours) course is also been offered here and for that the age group is between 16 to 24 years. Candidate of age group 19-26 years are eligible for admission in Post Graduation. It is a 2 years course. A 6 months Refresher course is also offered for the teachers. For that the candidate should not be more than 40 years. For admission in this courses applications are invited from all over the country.
“Sri Ram Bhartiya Kala Kendra”, New Delhi holds many courses regarding Dancing Art. Here Kathak, Oddissi, Bharat Natyam and “Chau” Dance from Bihar could be learned.
Many colleges and universities recognised by “University Grant Commission have an arrangement providing training in Dancing Art. Girls trained in Vanasthali-Vidyapeeth (Rajasthan) were given title of “Uttama” (Dance) and Nishant “(Dance). Uttama title is recognised as Graduate degree, where as Nishant is equal to Post Graduation. From here girls can do 3 years Uttama in Manipuri, Kathak or any other classical dance form, whereas Nishant course is of 2 years. Those girls who have cleared their 10+2 or intermediate are eligible for admission in Uttama only. After successful completion of Uttama, girls are eligible to get admission in Nishant.
