Deepawali is called the ‘Festival of Lights’. It is celebrated with great excitement and joy all over India. It is one of the most beautiful festivals because as far as the eye can see, twinkling lights of candles and earthern diyas light up the houses like stars upon the earth. Now-a-days, people use electric bulbs to light their houses because these lights last for the whole night. On this day, people can clean and white-wash their houses. They worship Goddess Lakshmi as well. Deepawali is celebrated because Lord Rama returned to Ayodhya with his wife Sita and brother Laksman after fourteen years in the forest. Children burst crackers and fireworks, which resound through night. In South India, it is believed peace on the earth. Deepawali brings people together and sweets are exchanged as a sign of goodwill.
