The iceplant is a herbaceous perennial plant. This species forms a low mat of succulent, shiny and cylindrical evergreen leaves, bearing loads of small, starry flowers in early summer, then on and off through the season. The daisy-like flowers are fluorescent purple in colour. Due to the low need for maintenance, it is suitable for urban environments and high temperature regions. The leaves take on a reddish colour in winter. A single plant can spread up to 2 feet wide in one season. The plant grows up to 2 to 4 inches in height. Iceplant grows and spreads quickly, making it an ideal ground cover.
