Delphi is an ancient town on Mount Parnassus. The town is situated in the south of Mainland Greece in Phocis. The town has its origins in Greek Mythology that state that the town was built during the classical period of Ancient Greece, between 510 and 323 BC.
Why it is special: The town of Delphi is an ancient place that grew in power and prestige over the centuries because it was considered to be the seat of the Oracle. The Oracle was consulted on all matters important to the ancient classical world. While the original ancient town is now preserved as an important archaeological site, the modern town is located near by.
