Derek and his brother worked on a big farm during the day. They went to an evening school as their kind master had encouraged them to get education. Derek’s master even treated them and the other workers quite well. So, they were loyal to him even though their wages were not very good. One day, some men from a neighbouring farm came to meet Derek and the other workers. They tried to lure them, “You are mistreated here. You don’t even get paid well. Join us and you will be rich.” Though Derek was young yet he was very honest and sensible. He said to the other workers, “We can’t betray our kind master. These men will use your help and leave you once their purpose is solved.” “My brother is right. Our master has been very good to us,” said Derek’s brother. The workers agreed with them and refused to go with the cunning men.
