Being blind Dhritrashtra could not witness the battle. So, sage Veda Vyasa had provided Sanjaya with divine vision so that Sanjaya might watch the proceedings taking place on the battlefield. Sanjaya daily narrated to the king the scene of the battlefield.
One day, Dhritrashtra complained that Sanjaya gave him only bad news. There was nothing to show that the Kauravas were going to win the war. Sanjaya told him that he himself was responsible for the terrible war. He told Dhritrashtra that the Pandavas were fighting for justice.
On the seventh day, many warriors were killed. Bhurishrava was wounded. Abhimanyu replied the Kaurava army in befitting manner. Many brothers of Duryodhana were killed at the hands of Bhima. When Bhishma tried to overpower Abhimanyu, the five Pandavas came to the rescue of Abhimanyu. Thus ended the seventh day’s battle. On the eighth day when Arjuna’s son Iravan was killed, Ghatotkacha attacked the Kauravas ferociously. Bhima joined him and they both did away with a large number of Kaurava warriors.
