“If I catch that rabbit in my vegetable patch,” announced Mrs Yale, the farmer’s wife, “I will make rabbit stew!” Mrs Rabbit heard it and was terrified. “Come here, Bean!” she called her naughtiest bunny. “Don’t get into her garden again!” Bean was a very disobedient bunny. That evening, he went back into the vegetable patch to eat juicy cabbages. Unfortunately, Porter, the large sheepdog, caught him! He carried Bean into the farm kitchen. The moment Bean saw Mrs Yale. He thought, ‘Oh dear, I should have listened to Mom!’ When Porter dropped him on the rug, he acted as if he had fainted. Mrs Yale looked at him and said, “Poor fellow! He’s died of fright! I think I’ll make rabbit stew after all!” Bean peeped and saw that the kitchen door was open. In one big hop, he leaped right out of the door. Never again did he enter that vegetable patch!
