Jacob was excited for the Sunday picnic. But, on Sunday morning, it started raining heavily and the picnic was cancelled. Jacob remained unhappy all day. He was standing near the window in the evening. Just then, he saw an old man with a stick coming up the street. A little dog was walking beside him. As they drew nearer, Jacob realised that the old man was blind and he held the dog by a leash. Jacob thought about the blind person and shut his eyes very tight. He wanted to feel how the blind man felt in the darkness. Then he opened his eyes and looked at the old man’s face. It was a peaceful, pleasant face. The old man did not look discontented and unhappy, and yet it was far worse to be blind than to be disappointed about a picnic. Little Jacob learnt that it was not outside things that made a person content, but something within him or her.
