One day, on the banks of a big river, Hatim saw a stone mansion and on its wall he read, “Do good and cast it into the river!” He knew his search had come to an end. The owner of the house, who was a very old man, said that once upon a time he was a robber. He looted people. And every day, from the wealth he took away violently, he made two loaves of bread and threw them into the river asking for the blessings from heaven. One day, he fell sick. He thought he was dying. He saw himself at the gates of hell but then two angels came and took him away. The angels said, “Because of the two loaves of bread that you offered to heaven every day, you have been forgiven. Go back and do charity.” The statement reminded him of the divine blessings.
