Smith was a five-year-old boy. His favourite thing was to jump on his bed. His mother kept telling him, “Do not jump on the bed, Smith. One day you will hurt yourself.” But Smith never listened to his mother. One morning, Smith climbed out of bed and put on his clothes. He jumped back on the bed and pulled the blanket up over him. “Mama will never know if I jump just a little bit.” “Whee! Whee! Whee!” He went higher and higher. “I can see Mama’s car.” He was paying so much attention to the things he saw out of the window that his foot slipped off the bed. He went flying across the room and landed on the floor. He sobbed and shouted for his mother. Mother came running when she heard Smith’s cries. Smith’s leg was broken and the doctor had to put a plaster on it. When they got home, Smith told his mother, “Mama, I will never jump on my bed again. I promise.” And he never did.
