Dodging Bubbles (Chemistry Experiments)

Have you ever wondered why bubbles in your coke or any soda drink try to escape from a glass of soda? Find out.

Things Required:
Small baby food jar
Soda, any flavour carbonated beverage

Directions:
Fill the jar one-half full with soda. Set the jar on a table and observe the liquid.

This Is What Happens:
Small bubbles of gas continuously rise to the top of the liquid.

Science Behind It:
Carbonated beverages are made by dissolving large amounts of CO2 in flavoured water. This excess amount of CO2 is able to stay in the liquid because it is pushed with high pressure into the bottle and the bottle is immediately sealed. The bubbles that are rising in the cola are escaping CO2.
