Domestic Canary

The Serinus canaria domestica (scientific name) or domestic canary is a descendant of the wild canary. Originated from the Macaronesian Islands, it is presently found across the globe, in households as a songbird. 5.5 inches in length, this bird has a bright greenish-yellow coloured plumage overall excepting the tips of the tail feathers, which are white. However, various colours are being bred in captivity. Its diet mostly is comprised of seeds, grains, and other plant items, especially greens like broccoli, carrot, sprouts, etc. An average clutch-size has 4-5 eggs which are incubated for 14 days. Its IUCN listing is the LEAST CONCERN, since it is domesticated.
