The doorknob was a precursor to a general Egyptian security device for the time and a pin tumbler kind of locks. In this lock, a large wooden bolt was used to safeguard a door with an opening and numerous holes in its top. These holes at the upper part were packed with wood dowels to avert the bolt to get unlocked.
The first doorknob was invented in the year 1878 by Osbourn Dorsey. This recognized invention first came into view in the U.S. patent entries.
The conventional doorknob was made up of spindle or a bolt operating through it. These bolts were assembled immediately above a cylinder and the spindle was linked with it. There are four main parts in a doorknob which include the knobs. The knobs are classically circular but now they are made egg-shaped such as the ones made by Danbury, Emtek Hammered egg knob, Weiser Carlisle, Kwikset Laurel and Schalge Sienna.
