The Dorchester Pot is a small bell-shaped vase with a small opening at its top. The small vase is made entirely of zinc and was decorated with silver inlay, and six floral ornaments on its side and a kind of vine or crown on the bottom. The decorative work and perfect manufacturing of the vase indicates master craftsmanship in the moulding of this metal. In 1852, this incredible pot was excavated in two pieces after an explosion was used for breaking up a rock at Meeting House Hill, in Dorchester, Massachusetts. Geologists date this find between 570 and 593 million years ago.
