In the early 1900–land surveyors dropped a rope down a cave in Boone County, Arkansas. After the rope had descended two hundred feet, a horrendous hissing and roaring sound was heard, suggesting that a bizarre and enormous beast had been disturbed. They dropped a flat iron tied to a rope to the same place in the cave. They heard a hissing sound and the rope was pulled hard. When they pulled it back up, they found the flat iron had been badly bent and scored with scratches and teeth marks. Some believe that the roaring belonged to a cave-dwelling cryptid, or an apparently-extinct or so-far-undiscovered species.
