Edmund Kennedy

Edmund-Kennedy

Edmund Besley Court Kennedy was born on 5th September 1818 in Guernsey, United Kingdom, and he died on 23 December 1848 (aged 30 years) in Cape York Peninsula, Queensland, Australia. An English explorer in Australia, Edmund  Kennedy explored the interiors of Queensland and northern New South Wales which included the Thomson and Barcoo Rivers, Cooper Creek and Cape York Peninsula. He encountered terrible terrains and travelled only 40 miles in more than two months. Only three people survived the expedition. In 1847, Edmund discovered that the Victoria River did not flow into the Gulf as Mitchell thought, but was part of Coopers Creek. He renamed it the Barcoo River.

Do you know: Edmund Kennedy was killed by the natives and he died in the arms of his aboriginal Guide Jackey Jackey.
