Procedure:
- Place the fresh egg in the glass jar and then fill up the glass jar with hot tap water.
- Set the glass jar on a table or counter top and watch closely sitting quietly for several moments. You will see a tiny stream of bubbles rising from the egg.

Do you know that an egg contains air? The air inside the egg expands as it is heated by the hot water, and escapes into the water as bubbles. You might wonder how the air leaves the egg since the shell is not broken. Well, there are tiny openings called pores in the shell – about 7,000 of them! The pores are big enough to allow gases and moisture to pass through, but small enough to prevent harmful bacteria from getting into the egg.
