Eiffel Tower

Eiffel-Tower

The Eiffel Tower is a wrought iron latticework tower named after the designer Gustave Eiffel. The Eiffel Tower stands proud on the Champ de Mars in Paris. The Tower was built in 1889 as an entry to that year’s World’s Fair.

Why it is special: 324 metres in height, the Tower is as tall as an 81-storey building and is the tallest structure in Paris. When it was first presented at the fair, many artists and intellectuals in France criticized it for its design. However, over the years, it is not only the most visited paid monument in the world, but also a global cultural icon and the most recognizable structure in the world.
