Emil Holub was born on 7th October 1847 in Holice, Czech Republic, and he died on 21st February 1902 (aged 55 years) in Vienna, Austria. A Czech physician and cartographer, Emil was inspired by the writing of David Livingstone and settled in Kimberely in South Africa to practise medicine. His first expedition was experimental where he collected a large number of the specimen of natural history. He made the first ever map of the region around the Victoria Falls. He attempted to explore the entire length of Africa from Cape Town to Egypt but the expedition could not be completed.
