Once, there lived a very learned university professor. He had heard a lot about a Zen master and decided to pay him a visit. The professor met the Zen master and said, “I want to learn about Zen philosophy.” The Zen master invited the professor to sit down and have a cup of tea. He then quietly took the kettle and started pouring more tea into the cup. The cup was full and still the master kept pouring. The professor watched the overflowing cup for a while. After some time he could no longer control himself. He exclaimed, “The cup is overflowing. Why are you still pouring tea into it? You are wasting the tea.” The Zen master smiled and then said, “You are like this cup. How can I teach you anything unless you first empty your cup? Go and share your knowledge with people.”
Moral: Instead of learning more and more, it is important to share your knowledge first.
