David stood on the roof of his house enjoying the setting sun. Suddenly, the quiet was shattered by a sharp siren. David knew it signalled the coming of the enemy planes. Within minutes, David could make out the shapes of the enemy soldiers dropping out of planes, with the parachutes billowing out behind them! He ran down to warn his family but saw that his family had been taken hostage by an enemy soldier already. The soldier had not seen him, so David picked a heavy brass vase and hit the soldier hard on his head. The family sprang to action. Mother ran around shutting doors and drawing curtains. David’s sister shut off all the lights. David’s father called up the local police while his uncle tied up the enemy soldier. The family picked up whatever valuables they could lay their hands on, ran out of the house and drove off to safety!
