One day, the Bodhisattva announced to his disciples, “One of our young monks has reached an advanced state of enlightenment.” The news caused a stir and some excitement among the disciples. So, they decided to meet the enlightened monk and find out what he thought. “The master told us that you are enlightened. Is that true?” they asked. “It is,” he replied. One of the disciples asked, “How do you feel now?” “As miserable as ever,” said the enlightened monk. The confused disciples then went to the master and told him what had happened. The master explained, “After achieving enlightenment, the monk realised the true state of the world and life. He realised there is so much misery and sorrow in the world. This is the way of the world and he feels helpless that he can’t help get rid of the misery.”
