Nehruji was worried about the danger of war everytime and how long he will try to stop it. So there should be some permanent solution. Some declaration he had already made like—
1. He will abstain himself from the blocks.
2. Not to participate in any type of army agreement.
3. Not to support anybody, in case of war.
Many small countries wanted to separate themselves from these blocks but they dare not have such courage to revolt, but Jawaharlal’s declaration surely gave them such courage to separate. Hence Jawaharlal made peaceful area with the help of such small countries. Such an area where there is no war, where every country should follow Panchsheel and live peacefully. Nehruji wanted to extend this peaceful area upto whole world. For making his efforts into reality, he visited many countries.
Efforts to make friendly relations between U.S.A. and Soviet Union
Jawaharlal was trying his best to develop friendly relations between U.S.A and Soviet Union and to free the world from the possibility of a war. Hence, when Soviet Union had done nuclear test in 1961, then Jawaharlal straightaway went to Soviet Union and met Khrushchev. Both the leaders had an meeting and thereafter Soviet Union never undergone any type of nuclear test.
On the other hand, U.S.A. was frightened and became alert. She had started making ‘Defence-Places’ for saving herself from the attack of nuclear weapons. On hearing this Jawaharlal became very worried and in deep grief marched towards America. At that time John Kennedy was the newly elected President of U.S.A. He was already very much influenced by Jawaharlal. Jawaharlal receive a grand welcome in U.S.A.. Now he was among the few leaders of the world whose look and speech means a lot to anybody and people were crazy about him, so people came in masses to see and listen to him.
In United Nations Constituent Assembly
On 10th November 1961, Jawaharlal reached United Nations Constituent Assembly for a speech. The whole Assembly was jam packed. Nehruji said—“In the modern age, where deadly weapons been made, now there is no other way left for us, than to choose the path of disarmament. None of the nation wants war. Even U.S.A. and Soviet Union doesn’t want war, then why are we unsuccessful to stop the every possibility of war?”
This was such a question, which nobody has the answer. He continued his speech among the top leaders of the world and everybody was listening him peacefully. He clearly declared that we had only two options—one to live peacefully with mutual co-existence and other to loose our existence/identity. How true was Jawaharlal. Now the only way left is to live jointly and friendly. If we can’t then there will be war which will lead to danger of human existence.
After this declaration, many countries came forward for mutual agreement to stop nuclear tests. Then the efforts of Jawaharlal beared fruits and a Hotline was established between Washington and Moscow for direct talks between the two countries. Strongly the magic of Jawaharlal increased and he was treated to be the deciding element among the countries who had difference of opinion.
In this way while establishing peace, the great man entered into the 72nd year of his life. More lively and active than before, and no rest at all. By proving his slogan, Aram Haram Hai, he moved and moved on continuously unstoppable.
