Anna’s immediate family is happy about the big battle that he has won against the government. In the words of Anna’s younger brother Maruti, who lives in a small two-room house with wife Kanta at Ralegan Siddhi—”Anna had succeeded in yet another fight against corruption. Just before leaving the village for Delhi, Anna had told us that he will return only if he met with success.
Anna is the eldest among five brothers and two sisters. After a few years in the Army, he came back to devote his life to the village. We are his family, but he treats us like any other villager. Since the last 30 years, he has devoted his life to society. We respect his work and dedication towards the nation.
The family was glued to the TV set Anna Hazare was on his fast unto death. At such an advanced age, we were worried about his health. But we knew that he is stubborn and will fight for justice till the very end. Anna’s previous fast had lasted 11 days, and it seemed as if his body had got used to fasting.
Anna has not stepped inside the house ever since he began working for the people in 1975. He has scripted success stories in the village. His connected with the people and his commitment to the society has encouraged others. Now, the people in the village take care of him.”
