A Fire Whirl–also commonly known as a Fire Devil, Fire Tornado, Firenado, Fire Twister or in Japan Dragon Twist–is a whirlwind induced by a fire and often made up of flame or ash. It’s a weird phenomenon involving fire and wind currents created at a flame source by wind or by the air disruption caused by the fire itself. These Fire Whirls are the columns of ascending air with rotational motion carrying aloft smoke, debris and flames. These play a significant role in fire spread and are a hazard to control personnel.
