The hunter looked around and saw no other hunter or wild animal that might attack him. He put the tortoise down and went up to the deer. He was examining him to check if he was, in fact, dead. Meanwhile, Nibbles ran to where Slow-Toes lay tied to the hunter’s stick. He bit through the bonds and released Slow-Toes who ran as fast as he could and hid in the bushes near by. When Dapple saw that Slow-Toes was safe, he jumped up and took off into the forest! The hunter was taken aback to see that the deer was not dead at all! He gave a shout and chased him but was no match for the deer. He returned to find that the tortoise too had vanished. He had lost both the tortoise and the deer! The four friends went off happily to their new home.
