The Forbidden City is a Chinese Imperial palace that was built by the Ming Dynasty.The Palace is situated in Beijing, China. The Forbidden City was built between 1406 and 1420.

Why it is special: The Forbidden City comprises 980 buildings that are spread across 180 acres of land. The architecture is traditionally Chinese palatial architecture. Home to 24 Emperors, the ‘City’ is considered to be one of the oldest and largest collections of preserved ancient wooden structures in the world. It was named Zijin Cheng (meaning Forbidden City) because no one was allowed to enter or leave the palace without the Emperor’s permission.
