Nancy was a shy girl but she was very intelligent and brave. She wore spectacles and without them she couldn’t see clearly. Her classmate, Harry, used to call her ‘Four Eyes.’ She always ignored him when he teased her. One day, the teacher announced, “Our school is organising a picnic and we will go to visit famous caves.” The class was very excited for the picnic. After a week, the class went for a picnic. The class was divided into groups. Nancy walked next to Harry. Harry was very naughty and he was jumping from one rock to another. Suddenly, Harry put his foot on a hole and slipped. While falling, he grabbed Nancy’s hand who was walking besides him. Both fell down into the hole and landed in a very big dark cave.
The cave was too dark. There was only a single ray of light coming from the roof of the cave. Nancy and Harry started crying. They shouted for help but none came. The light descended from the hole in a straight line. So, Nancy presumed that it must be noontime. Suddenly, a small piece of wood fell down. She got an amazing idea. She used her glasses as a magnifying glass and focused the ray of light onto the wood until a little flame sprang up. This piece of wood now acted like a torch.
Now, they found a way out. Harry thanked Nancy. Harry knew that she didn’t like to be called ‘Four Eyes’ and regretted having given her that name. After all, it was her glasses that saved them. Harry told everyone what had happened, and from that day, no one called Nancy ‘Four Eyes’.
