Four o’clock is an ornamental perennial plant. The plant is called four o’clock because its flowers, from white and yellow to shades of pink and red, sometimes streaked and mottled, open in late afternoon (and close by morning). The leaves are oval. The stems are swollen at the joints. The plants continue to produce new flowers from late spring until autumn. It has large, black carrot-shaped tubers that can be a foot or more long. A very important and curious aspect of this plant is that the flowers with different colours can be found simultaneously on the same plant.
